The only child of “older” parents, raised in the southwest Chicago suburbs, Dennis ventured west to Stanford University, graduating with an AB in History in 1971. From there, he went east to Yale University Divinity School, where he earned his M.Div. in 1975. That was the beginning of a 45 year ministry in Rantoul, northwest Chicago, Flanagan, St. Joseph, and Danforth - all in Illinois, and in Atlantic, Iowa. Dennis and Sally married in 1980. She entered the ordained ministry with Dennis in 1994. They have been privileged to serve parishes together since that time.
Happily retired in St. Joseph, IL., Dennis “pinch hits” for colleagues when they need to be away from their pulpits. He has been very active in each of the communities he has served: in service organizations, community betterment groups, ministerial associations, and other groups committed to helping those in need. In Chicago, he played a major role in the administration of Prince of Peace Lutheran School, a significant and successful outreach to a changing community. Since 2007, he has been Sally’s right-hand man in the work of the Lullabye Foundation in south-west Iowa, Lake County, Illinois, and East Central, Illinois. He has also been a huge support to Sally in the production and promotion of her two books: Ordinarily Sarah in 2016 and Ordinarily Sarah, Book 2: Relentless in 2020. With the Covid-19 pandemic on the wane, we hope to do much more promotion of both books as we move into the days ahead.
